Job Description

Are you passionate about cutting-edge technology and motivated to find innovative solutions to complex challenges as part of a team that helps keep the UK safe? Join BAE Systems as an experienced AWS Developer.

As a key member of a Cloud Platform Team, you will work with National Security Customers to build infrastructure platforms on AWS that Product Engineering teams use to develop core mission applications. You will join empowered, autonomous teams with regular contact with Engineering teams and end-users to design, develop, deploy and maintain infrastructure platforms on AWS. You will have opportunities to work across different teams within our customer organisations and take ownership and responsibility commensurate with your appetite, supported by a larger Engineering community to help you grow in your career.

We value engineers who participate in the full delivery lifecycle and are flexible to learn and adopt new technologies and approaches. You will help identify the right technologies for the job and receive training through services such as Cloud Academy and Pluralsight.

About you

You will have experience in many of the following:

  • Extensive AWS experience and ability to solve complex business issues; regarded as an AWS subject matter expert
  • Demonstrated expertise designing and building with AWS services such as EC2, ECS, EKS, S3, Lambda, RDS, KMS, ELB, SNS, SQS, IAM
  • Scripting abilities with languages such as Shell, Bash or Python
  • Working knowledge of Linux, networking, routing and firewalls
  • Strong understanding of operational concepts on AWS, particularly monitoring and observability, Fin Ops
  • Proficient in Infrastructure as Code technologies (e.g., Cloud Formation, CDK, Terraform)
  • Source control in systems such as Git, Mercurial, or Perforce
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills, with a desire to learn new technologies
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP)

It would be great if you also had some of these, but if not we’ll help you develop them:

  • AWS Certification at Associate level (e.g., Solutions Architect, Developer or Dev Ops)
  • Coding experience in at least one Lambda-compatible language
  • Docker and container runtimes such as Kubernetes, EKS, ECS
  • Experience using CI/CD tools (e.g., Bamboo, Jenkins, Team City, Bitbucket) to streamline delivery
  • Automated testing frameworks for continual code testing
