Workplace Technology Engineer (Corporate IT)

About the RoleWe are looking for a Workplace Technology Engineer to provide hands-on support for workplace technology and IT infrastructure within a large corporate environment.
This role is responsible for delivering IMAC
, IMACD
, and Breakfix services, supporting technology rooms, communications rooms and office-based IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will carry out equipment installations, moves, additions, changes, decommissions, structured cabling activities, hardware support and incident resolution while ensuring a high level of customer service.
Working closely with local management and technical teams, you will play a key role in maintaining business-critical workplace technology services and ensuring all work is completed in line with operational and change management processes.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver IMAC
, IMACD and Breakfix activities across workplace technology environments. - Install, relocate and decommission IT hardware and associated infrastructure.
- Carry out rack and stack activities for servers, network equipment and other technology devices.
- Install equipment racks,
Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and supporting hardware within technology rooms. - Perform hardware swaps, upgrades and equipment replacements.
- Move IT equipment between offices, technology rooms and storage locations as required.
- Conduct routine inspections of technology and communications rooms.
- Assist with investigations relating to power, temperature and environmental alarms.
- Identify obsolete or redundant equipment and infrastructure for removal.
- Support access control by escorting and supervising approved third-party engineers and contractors.
- Maintain organised and compliant technology room environments.
- Install, terminate and maintain structured cabling systems.
- Complete LAN and WAN patching in accordance with established standards.
- Label cabinets, equipment and cabling accurately.
- Carry out cable tracing, fault finding and testing using Fluke test equipment.
- Recover unused cabling and patching following equipment moves or decommissioning.
- Maintain cable records and update infrastructure documentation.
- Provide first and second-line infrastructure support where required.
- Troubleshoot hardware, cabling and connectivity issues.
- Support server reboots, equipment checks and technology component replacements.
- Respond to incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
- Escalate issues where appropriate and work collaboratively with wider technical teams to achieve resolution.
- Manage incidents, requests and changes through IT service management (ITSM) systems.
- Maintain accurate asset records and equipment inventories.
- Complete activity reports, task updates and shift handovers.
- Support Return Material Authorisation (RMA) processes.
- Ensure all documentation is updated following installations, moves or decommissions.
- Previous experience within a Corporate IT
, enterprise or large-scale office environment. - Experience delivering IMAC
, IMACD and Breakfix services. - Hands-on experience with rack and stack installations and IT hardware deployments.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling
, patching, cable management and fault finding. - Good understanding of LAN and WAN connectivity.
- Experience using Asset Management and IT Service Management (ITSM) ticketing systems.
- Understanding of Change Management and service delivery processes.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a wider technical team.
- Experience supervising contractors or third-party engineers.
- Experience supporting technology rooms or communications rooms within a corporate environment.
- Ability to mentor or support less experienced engineers.
- Understanding of hardware lifecycle management and equipment logistics.
