Infrastructure SQL Engineer

We are partnering with a central pillar of the UK financial infrastructure in London to modernise their enterprise database ecosystem. The team is delivering multi-year Application Transformation and Obsolescence initiatives across mission-critical platforms. Due to the sensitive nature of these environments, active Security Clearance (SC) is strictly required. This is a high-impact engineering assignment focused on executing zero-downtime migrations, upgrading core database clusters, and maintaining extreme availability.

As an Infrastructure SQL Engineer, you will own database provisioning, performance, and migration delivery across global operations. Your mandate is to build high-assurance SQL environments and resolve post-transformation technical debt alongside core infrastructure squads.

• Platform Delivery: Standardise and deploy production SQL instances using automated QA validation models
• Migration & Upgrades: Drive cross-datacenter migrations, platform upgrades (SQL 2016 to modern releases), and instance decommissioning
• High Availability: Architect and support Always On Availability Groups, Windows Clustering, and HADR frameworks
• Automation: Build operational scripts and reporting telemetry using Power Shell and PowerBI

• Active Security Clearance (SC): Mandatory active clearance required for site and system access
• SQL Server Depth: Hands-on administration across enterprise SQL Server releases (2016 to 2022/2025)
• Clustering & HADR: Strong capability with Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering
• SQL Stack & Virtualisation: Practical experience with SSIS/SSRS/SSAS and hosting SQL on VMware environments
• Operational Control: Proficiency in Power Shell automation and ITIL service management (e.g., Remedy/Helix)
• Practical exposure to SQL 2025, Active Directory, Commvault backup, or SCOM telemetry
