Location: Greater London

Join Barclays as a Python Platform Engineer and create an interactive analytics environment that enables quants, data scientists, and engineers to create, share, and run code  multidisciplinary team are delivering notebook experiences with Jupyter & VSCode, distributed compute with Dask/Spark, and the runtime building blocks that power model development, pricing, and risk analytics across the organization. You'll help define the roadmap, ship features, ensure reliability, and scale adoption while partnering closely with users in Markets Front Office.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Strong experience in Python application development and infrastructure including environment management and packaging.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build and maintain relationships with business colleagues
  • Experience leading a project team delivering development projects
  • Understanding of working with data in Python, across data engineering and analytics.

Additional highly valued skills include:

  • Background in data science, quantitative finance, or risk analytics
  • Proficiency in Type Script/JavaScript (React preferred)
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization
  • Experience with AWS or another public cloud provider

This role is based in London, 2 days in office per week

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
