Reports to Chief Technology Officer

About the role

Elaniti is building soil intelligence technology using AI, to decode soil function for agriculture. We combine DNA sequencing, bioinformatics and machine learning to enable improved agricultural decision-making for more sustainable, regenerative farming.

We are looking for an experienced Dev Ops Engineer to own the cloud infrastructure behind our platform. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role: you will inherit real, evolving systems, maintain and enhance their security, and help establish the practices that let Elaniti scale with confidence. A focus on security is a core part of the role as we grow and work with larger customers.

What

you’ll own
  • Design, build and operate our cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, with a focus on maintainable, team-owned systems and safe, repeatable change.
  • Own CI/CD and release processes so our platform, APIs and ML workflows can ship safely, reliably and with minimal manual overhead.
  • Build and maintain containerised infrastructure for bioinformatics, data and ML workloads.
  • Own observability, resilience, performance and cloud cost optimisation.
  • Continuously improve the security, resilience and operational maturity of our infrastructure and delivery systems.
  • Improve and modernise inherited infrastructure as well as designing and building new systems.
  • Work with bioinformaticians, ML/AI engineers and the wider technical team on architecture, tooling and security decisions.
What we’re looking for
  • Significant hands-on experience owning production cloud infrastructure in a Dev Ops, Platform or Infrastructure Engineering role.
  • Strong practical experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally across the AWS and/or Google Cloud ecosystems, with a good understanding of networking, security, data and observability.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, for example Terraform or cloud-native alternatives, with a disciplined approach to planning, review and change management.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals across Linux, containers, automation and software delivery.
  • A genuine interest in cloud and infrastructure security, and a strong instinct for secure‑by‑default engineering.
  • Confidence investigating unfamiliar systems and validating what is actually deployed rather than relying only on documentation or source code.
How you work
  • You have excellent attention to detail and care about getting things right.
  • You take ownership, but investigate before changing things, think about blast radius and verify the outcome.
  • You are curious and enjoy understanding why something exists, whether it is still needed and how it behaves in production.
  • You communicate clearly, can explain risks and trade‑offs to people outside Dev Ops, and are comfortable saying when something is uncertain.
  • You get satisfaction from leaving systems simpler, safer and more watertight than you found them.
Nice to have
  • Experience or an interest in scientific computing, data‑heavy environments, bioinformatics, genomics, life sciences or biotech.
  • Experience supporting data pipelines or analytics platforms.
  • Experience shaping Dev Ops practices in a small or growing engineering team.
Technology

Our technology environment spans AWS and Google Cloud, Infrastructure as Code, Docker‑based workloads, CI/CD, data infrastructure and modern observability and security tooling.

We care most about strong Dev Ops fundamentals, sound judgement and evidence that you have taken real ownership of production systems. If you are thoughtful about security, care about doing things properly and are interested in Elaniti’s mission, we would like to hear from you.

  • 30 days annual leave including UK Bank Holidays

Equal opportunity

Elaniti is committed to building an inclusive team. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the process where helpful.
