Who Are We?

We insure small businesses and enable big dreams – not just for our customers, but for our people and communities too. With over 1,000,000 active insurance policies, we protect builders, bakers, landlords and more than 1,200 other trades. We’re a technology company as well as one that sells insurance. That means we build, we fail, we learn and we improve. Through our global social impact strategy, called ‘The Big Dreams Project’, we're working to help 10,000 small businesses start or grow by 2030.

What Is the Opportunity?

As an Underwriting Analyst in our MGA team in London, you will drive data‑driven decision‑making and shape the underwriting strategy for a fast‑growing, tech‑led business. You will work directly with capacity providers, finance, and data engineering teams to influence high‑level business performance, lead reserving and profit‑share calculations, and deliver direct commercial impact. Unlike traditional analytics roles that operate in technical silos, this position offers direct commercial visibility and strategic influence across our business.

You’ll modernise our underwriting technology alongside data engineers and mentor junior talent, and present key claims and sales trends directly to senior leadership and external partners.

  • Evaluate insurance product metrics to uncover underlying trends in claims and sales performance.
  • Design and maintain accurate self‑service data tools so the MGA team can access critical insights easily.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive monthly management information and performance reports to external capacity providers.
  • Calculate reserving requirements and profit share metrics in close collaboration with finance teams.
  • Partner with data engineering to ensure incoming data streams are accurate, timely, and fit for purpose.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations while coaching and developing junior colleagues.
We’re Looking For Someone Who Is:
  • Experienced in insurance data analytics with a solid understanding of underwriting metrics.
  • Highly proficient with SQL, Excel, and data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Able to manipulate large datasets and spot key anomalies or trends with exceptional attention to detail.
  • A skilled communicator who can break down complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Self‑motivated and collaborative, with the capability to coach team members and build strategic relationships across teams.
  • Progressing towards or has completed relevant qualifications, such as CII, Actuarial, or a Master’s degree in Data Analytics or Statistics. (We know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap. You don’t have to match all the bullet points above to be considered for this role.)

We encourage people of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. We are committed to maintaining an inclusive, supportive place for you to be you and do your very best work. By sharpening our underwriting insight and driving data‑led decisions, you will directly help protect and enable big dreams for UK small businesses.
