Research Fellow – Creative Computing and Extended Reality

General Description

The University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a Research Fellow in Creative Computing and Extended Reality to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of creative practice and emerging digital technologies. This role is situated within UAL's dynamic research environment, which fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across art, design, and technology.

The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing research in areas such as extended reality (XR), immersive media, and creative computing. The position involves contributing to funded research projects, developing experimental approaches, and producing impactful outputs that bridge creative and technical disciplines.

Responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, contributing to publications and exhibitions, engaging with academic and industry partners, and supporting the development of research proposals and funding applications. The role also involves contributing to the broader research culture at UAL through knowledge exchange, collaboration, and dissemination activities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in a relevant field such as creative computing, digital media, interactive arts, computer science, or a related discipline.

Required expertise/skills
  • Experience in extended reality (XR), immersive technologies, or creative computing
  • Strong portfolio of research or creative practice outputs
  • Experience with digital tools, programming, or interactive media development
  • Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams combining art, design, and technology
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Experience in developing research proposals or securing funding is desirable

Salary details

£42,477 - £50,961 per annum
