Senior Technician; DevOps

About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technician Dev Ops to join the fast growing team at Falmouth University's Games Academy.

This is a pivotal role in the department, providing a professional level of technical instruction, curriculum support, demonstration and supervision for the technical facilities, equipment and/or processes for all of the subjects of the School. This includes the set-up, maintenance and supply of resources and equipment, and the provision of technical assistance, advice and instruction to all stakeholders, including students, academic staff, and external customers.

This role will primarily support our BSc(Hons) Software Engineering and BSc(Hons) Computer Science courses. While these courses sit within the Games Academy, they are not games-specific, so the focus of this role is on core Dev Ops, systems administration and software engineering support. That said, you'll be joining a team embedded within a games-focused department, so familiarity with game development tools and pipelines is a welcome bonus.

The successful candidate for this role will need to be a pro-active "team player" who is conscientious and hard-working, who actively plays their part in continuing to make Falmouth University a great place to work. Alongside these core qualities, you'll have solid Dev Ops and systems administration experience, with strong technical and IT skills. Previous experience working in an education environment would also be desirable.

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

• Solid working knowledge of Linux system administration, including RHEL-based and Debian-based distributions, in a Dev Ops/server environment
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and modern deployment strategies
• Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/Node.js, Bash) for automation and tooling
• Experience supporting enterprise IT operations, including computer management and software deployment
• Strong experience with version control systems, particularly Git, including branching strategies, conflict resolution and problem solving
• Excellent communication skills, exemplifying patience and understanding of students' higher education journey
• A commitment to continuous professional development, with a drive to learn new skills, software and techniques

This is a permanent, full-time position working
35 hours across Monday-Friday.
