OpenAI Engineer (Cyber Security) - SC Cleared Remote | SC Cleared | Up to £445 per day (IR35) Are you passionate about applying cutting-edge AI technologies to solve real-world cyber security challenges? We are looking for an experienced OpenAI Engineer (Cyber AI) to play a key role in shaping the future of AI-enabled cyber defence within a large public sector environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of Generative AI , Cyber Security Operations , and Innovation , developing intelligent solutions that enhance Security Operations Centre (SOC) capabilities. Working alongside Solution Architects, Business Analysts and Cyber Security specialists, you will design, develop and evaluate AI-powered proof-of-concepts that demonstrate how Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI assistants and agentic AI technologies can improve operational efficiency, automate investigative tasks and support security analysts.

What You'll Be Doing Designing and building AI-powered solutions using OpenAI technologies and APIs. Developing proof-of-concepts and prototypes to support SOC and cyber security operations. Creating AI assistants, copilots and agent-based workflows to enhance analyst productivity. Implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using enterprise knowledge sources. Applying prompt engineering techniques to optimise AI performance and accuracy. Integrating AI capabilities with SIEM, SOAR and other cyber security platforms.

Establishing evaluation frameworks to measure effectiveness, accuracy and business value. Embedding Responsible AI principles and security controls throughout the solution lifecycle. Collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to identify and validate high-value AI use cases. Producing demonstrations, technical documentation and recommendations for future AI adoption. Required Skills & Experience Experience developing solutions using the OpenAI Platform and APIs . Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies.

Hands-on experience with Prompt Engineering and AI optimisation techniques. Proven experience implementing RAG architectures and knowledge retrieval solutions. Knowledge of Agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration frameworks. Experience building AI assistants, copilots or conversational AI applications. Strong Python development skills and experience with modern AI frameworks. Experience working with vector databases and semantic search technologies. Understanding of Security Operations Centre (SOC) processes and cyber security operations.

Knowledge of AI evaluation methodologies, testing frameworks and performance measurement. Understanding of Responsible AI, security, governance and risk management principles. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable Experience AI solutions within cyber security or threat detection environments.

Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar or other SIEM platforms. SOAR platforms and security automation tooling. Cloud platforms including Azure, AWS or Google Cloud. Public sector or government project experience. Active SC Clearance. Reasonable Adjustments:
