Whatyou would be doing
In this role, you would be responsible for providing reliable, secure and high-performing Linux computing services to support the Department’s teaching, research and administrative activities. You would work on maintaining and improving departmental infrastructure, with a focus on automation, scalability, performance and resilience. This would include systems administration, monitoring, patching, access control, backups and vulnerability management, as well as contributing to the development of new services and infrastructure solutions.
You would also work closely with academic staff, researchers, teaching fellows and technical colleagues to understand their requirements and provide effective systems, network and user support.

You would also contribute to the wider management and development of the Department’s IT services. This would include providing technical input into the procurement, evaluation, installation, configuration and lifecycle management of hardware, software and infrastructure, while maintaining accurate asset and purchasing records. An important responsibility would be ensuring that departmental systems follow appropriate information security, data management and IT policies. Where security or operational incidents occur, you would be involved in detecting, investigating, escalating and resolving issues promptly, as well as identifying preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents occurring in the future.
