Assistant Underwriter - Specialist Consumer Products

The Role

The Specialist Consumer Products team are a market leading provider of creditor, affinity group A&H and mortgage insurance. The role involves assisting with the underwriting and managing a growing portfolio of international business, in line with the business plan and personal authority limits.

• You will assess and underwrite renewal business targeting business plan loss ratios.
• Assist underwriters in assessing and underwriting new business opportunities.
• Underwriting individual referrals.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal procedures.
• Developing a clear understanding of Consumer Duty, Fair Value measures and other FCA conduct guidance.
• You will prepare binders and slips for renewals, ensuring all internal processes are followed.
• You will participate in the product review process and review those products particularly allocated to you.
• Actively participating in monthly SCP team reporting and SCP Claims meetings.
• Compiling monthly underwriting reports.
• You will develop effective working relationships with other teams including Conduct, Delegated Underwriting Management and Compliance.
• In conjunction with the Head of Technical Underwriting, review and finalise contract wordings and customer documentation to maintain compliance with regulation and in light of Consumer Duty.

• Ability to exercise sound underwriting judgement based upon detailed risk analysis.
• General knowledge of insurance and underwriting within the Lloyd’s marketplace.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Power BI and Word.
• Analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• A desire to expand knowledge within the industries that we work in via professional exams and practical participation.
