Surety Underwriter

The Surety Underwriter is responsible for underwriting a portfolio of surety risks, developing broker and client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of our UK surety business.

• Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal surety bond submissions in line with company guidelines and risk appetite
• Conduct detailed financial and credit analysis of applicants, including corporate financial statements and industry trends
• Structure and price surety bond programs to ensure profitability and compliance with internal standards
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders
• Identify and underwrite new business opportunities
• Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings
• Manage and monitor a diverse portfolio of surety risks, ensuring balanced growth and profitability
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal audit requirements
• Resolve outstanding underwriting and claim matters promptly to mitigate risks
• Provide structured management reporting and accurate system data entries in a timely manner
• Mentor and support junior underwriters and contribute to team development
• Collaborate with legal, claims, administrative and finance teams
• Support the European Surety team in developing profitable business and customer relationships

• Strong knowledge of surety products, including contract and commercial bonds
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills
• Strong negotiation and communication abilities
• Proven ability to assess complex financial and operational risks
