The Assistant Vice President, Reinsurance Claims – Specialty is responsible for the handling, oversight, and administration of a portfolio of reinsurance claims, with a particular focus on Specialty reinsurance business. The role combines technical claims handling responsibilities across non-proportional Specialty lines of business, including Marine & Energy, Trade Credit & Surety, Aviation, and Engineering, together with oversight of the claims component of the proportional treaty process.

* ** What you’ll be doing:
*** Manage Specialty reinsurance claims from notification to resolution across non-proportional and proportional treaty portfolios, ensuring timely, accurate handling in line with procedures, controls, authorities, and service standards.
* Assess complex claims matters, including coverage, liability, quantum, exposure, reserves, loss developments, aggregation issues, and sensitive or contentious matters, with appropriate investigation, documentation, and escalation.
* Provide technical and reserving analysis by interpreting policy and reinsurance contract terms, setting and reviewing reserves, and making recommendations on coverage, strategy, exposure, and claims developments.
* Support proportional treaty oversight by promoting consistent claims handling, acting as a key contact, improving processes, data quality, systems usage, reporting, and contributing to guidance, training, and documentation.
* Engage stakeholders and clients by building strong relationships with cedants, brokers, internal teams, experts, and counsel; attending claims meetings; and communicating clearly on strategy, developments, reserves, trends, and concerns.
* Support portfolio management and governance through trend analysis, reporting, underwriting feedback, audits, projects, control compliance, audit readiness, knowledge sharing, and awareness of market, legal, and jurisdictional developments.  
** What you’ll bring:
*** Significant relevant claims experience, ideally gained in insurance or reinsurance claims handling, with demonstrable experience in complex reinsurance claims.
* Strong experience in Specialty reinsurance claims handling, particularly in non-proportional claims across one or more of the following lines of business:
Marine & Energy, Trade Credit & Surety, Aviation, and Engineering.
* Good working knowledge of proportional treaty claims handling and processes.
* Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance contract terms and conditions, including different reinsurance structures and their application to claims.
* Ability to assess coverage, liability, quantum, exposure, aggregation, and reserve adequacy using incomplete or evolving information.
* Strong analytical capability and sound judgment in reviewing claims data, technical documentation, and claim-related information.
* Commercial awareness and the ability to provide clear, balanced, and practical claims recommendations.
* Strong written and spoken English skills are essential.
* An additional European language, such as German, French, Spanish or Italian, would be a significant asset.
