An opportunity to join a leading London Market insurance business as an Underwriting Controls Manager, with responsibility for developing, maintaining and enhancing a robust underwriting controls framework across open market and delegated business.
The role will work closely with senior underwriting stakeholders to strengthen governance, embed best practice, support regulatory compliance and drive greater consistency across underwriting processes. It will also provide oversight of key underwriting policies, controls testing, exception reporting and regulatory requirements, while managing and developing an Underwriting Controls Analyst.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, implement and maintain a robust underwriting controls framework aligned with regulatory requirements, market standards and the organisation's risk appetite.
- Identify opportunities to enhance existing underwriting controls and support the implementation of improvements.
- Promote continuous process improvement, including greater consistency and appropriate centralisation of underwriting processes.
- Embed effective underwriting controls and best practice across open market and delegated underwriting activities.
- Maintain key underwriting policies, procedures, guidelines and control documentation, ensuring these remain accurate, effective and fit for purpose.
- Lead the production and ongoing maintenance of underwriting policies, procedures, guidelines, pricing controls and independent review documentation.
- Own the annual issuance and ongoing maintenance of underwriting authorities.
- Develop and provide regular exception reporting and key control metrics to senior underwriting stakeholders, providing assurance that underwriting activity remains aligned with risk appetite and policy.
- Oversee underwriting exceptions monitoring and controls testing.
- Support relevant market and regulatory processes, including applicable industry schemes, annual declarations and associated governance requirements.
- Support regular review and attestation of underwriting controls against applicable Lloyd's oversight requirements and the organisation's internal control framework.
- Assist with regulatory reviews, reporting requirements and ad-hoc projects relating to underwriting controls and governance.
- Support the independent peer review process for underwriting.
- Oversee underwriting onboarding and leaver processes, including providing relevant information, access and support for underwriting platforms and applications.
- Act as the appropriate regulatory oversight contact for relevant underwriting secondees and provide associated underwriting controls and governance oversight.
- Provide line management, coaching, support and training to an Underwriting Controls Analyst.
- Build effective working relationships with senior underwriters, risk, compliance and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial crime, conduct, regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Demonstrable experience within Lloyd's or the London Market, ideally across underwriting controls, underwriting support, operations, risk or compliance.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Lloyd's underwriting oversight requirements and market standards.
- Experience designing, maintaining or enhancing underwriting controls frameworks.
- Strong understanding of underwriting governance, policies, procedures, exceptions monitoring and controls testing.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, organise work effectively and deliver to demanding deadlines.
