About the DepartmentOur Copyright Department ensures the accurate registration, monitoring, and protection of Sony Music Publishing’s UK catalogue, both domestically and internationally. We also represent affiliate catalogues within the UK, handling detailed song-level data with utmost attention. Success in this team requires:
- Knowledge of UK and international copyright law and procedures
- Understanding of rights management and global society systems
- A detail-oriented, investigative approach
- Clear, concise communication skills (written and verbal)
- Data literacy and awareness of its impact on projects
- Confidence in representing the company and its repertoire
The team collaborates closely with Royalties, Tracking, A&R, Business Affairs, Synch, V&MR, and PM departments, and is often the starting point for rights management. Daily client interaction makes customer relations a key part of our service.
About the RoleThis position is ideal for candidates eager to begin a career in copyright administration.
As a Copyright Analyst you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of new and updated copyright information for designated catalogue clients. Maintaining high data standards is essential, as is collaborating effectively with internal managers and clients.
Success in this role requires initiative, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to manage high volumes of data entry with accuracy while maintaining high levels of concentration; the integrity of data is key for the Copyright function. You will report workflow or complex issues to the Senior Copyright Analyst. You will work closely with the Tracking and Global Administration teams, both logistically and technically, and should be comfortable managing your own workload independently.
Externally, you will communicate with clients and management, analyse collection societies’ workflows, and demonstrate clear, concise communication skills.
You will utilise several in-house databases as well as some of the collection societies’ systems (e.g. PRS).

Song/Catalogue Delivery & Ingestion
- Screening of client-delivered song data for errors and missing information
- Prioritize and fast-track clients/songs as needed
- Coordinate with the Global Nashville Hub for claim harmonisation and global registration
- Configure key data within database systems and ensure worldwide registration via CWR
- Maintain smooth workflow operations through proactive problem-solving and client education
- Manage expectations of both external clients and internal management
- Regularly report progress, issues, and open cases to Senior Management
- Provide feedback at departmental meetings to discuss outcomes and challenges
- Manage system corrections and error tracking
- Use Excel and Sony MP mainframe reporting tools proficiently
