We are seeking a driven and ambitious Assistant Procurement Manager to join our Rail team. You will support end-to-end subcontract procurement and major materials procurement across both live projects and tender activities, ensuring robust commercial management, timely delivery, and best‑value outcomes.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to further develop their expertise, take ownership of key procurement activities, and grow into a position with increasing responsibility and influence across complex infrastructure projects.

Role Responsibilities
  • Support Procurement Managers with the Procurement of Subcontracts ensuring best value, compliance, and alignment with programme requirements.
  • Support Materials Buyers with the Procurement of Goods and Services
  • Track, upload and ensure the timely receipt of supply chain performance records
  • Support the updating of procurement schedules and report buying gains/losses.
  • Administrative duties including Dousign and the maintenance of accurate procurement records
  • Ensure adherence to Morgan Sindall processes and DELAPs.
  • Support work-winning through tender enquiries, and supplier/subcontractor evaluations.
  • Identify innovation opportunities through supply chain engagement.
  • Build and manage key supplier and subcontractor relationships.
  • Champion Protecting People, sustainable supply chain delivery aligned with Perfectly Delivery and Responsible Business
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • Good understanding of procurement and sourcing processes, from supplier identification and quotation management through to purchase order placement.
  • Commercially aware, with experience supporting negotiations and delivering value through effective supplier management and cost control.
  • Ability to follow established procurement procedures and contribute to the delivery of procurement activities across multiple projects or categories.
  • Basic understanding of construction or similar operational environments.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of ensuring procurement activities are completed in line with company policies, contractual obligations, and governance requirements.
  • Good communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and internal customers.
  • Confident in analysing quotations, supplier proposals, and procurement data to support purchasing decisions.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a procurement team and support wider business objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and comfortable working with procurement systems.
  • Keen to develop procurement knowledge and stay informed of market trends and supply chain developments.
  • Desirable:
    Working towards, or interested in obtaining, a CIPS qualification.
