Senior​/Group Buyer Construction

Position: Senior / Group Buyer Construction
I am currently in need of a Senior / Group Buyer for a Construction based company in East London who work in and around the London and the M25 area with a current turnover of £90 million. Projects include new build, refurbishment & fit out works within commercial, healthcare, education and residential on projects ranging between £2 to £15 million.

The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods and services at the best possible cost, quality, and terms. The role manages supplier relationships, negotiates commercial agreements, monitors purchasing performance, and ensures continuity of supply to support business operations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day purchasing and procurement activities.
Manage Group-wide purchasing and sourcing activities.
Identify, assess, and manage key suppliers.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and rebates.
Develop strong relationships with strategic suppliers.
Identify and deliver cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities.
Monitor supplier performance, including price, quality, and delivery.
Consolidate Group purchasing requirements to maximise buying power.
Work with Operations, Finance, and other departments to meet purchasing needs.
Manage purchase orders and resolve supplier issues.
Monitor purchasing spend and provide reports on savings and supplier performance.
Support tenders, supplier reviews, and contract negotiations.
Ensure purchasing follows Group policies and procedures.

Key Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Group Buyer, Senior Buyer, or Procurement professional.
Strong negotiation and supplier-management skills.
Experience managing suppliers across multiple sites or business units.
Strong commercial and analytical skills with a focus on cost savings.
Good understanding of sourcing, procurement, and supply chain.
Strong Excel and ERP/procurement systems knowledge.
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Strong organisation, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
Proactive and commercially focused approach.
CIPS or relevant procurement qualification is desirable. My client is looking to pay a competitive basic salary and a benefits package dependent on experience.
