- Hybrid (approx. 50% office-based)
Contract: Temporary contract until 18 December 2026, with potential extension
Rate: £420 per day Umbrella, Inside IR35
Client: Major Transport Organisation
An Interim Commercial Manager to join a major UK Transport organisation's Procurement & Commercial function, supporting significant rolling stock, infrastructure, maintenance and renewal programmes.
This is a high-profile, stakeholder-facing opportunity where you'll take ownership of pre-contract procurement and sourcing activity, from defining requirements and developing sourcing strategies through to tender, negotiation and contract award.
The Role:- Lead end-to-end sourcing and procurement activities from initial requirement through to contract execution.
- Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies.
- Run competitive tender exercises and single-source procurements.
- Lead supplier negotiations covering pricing, rates, terms and conditions.
- Identify opportunities to deliver commercial value and value for money.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
- Provide commercial advice and challenge where appropriate.
- Draft contracts and contribute to contract template development.
- Manage procurement governance and approval processes.
- Maintain accurate sourcing pipelines and procurement data.
- Manage several procurement projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Share commercial best practice and support colleagues across the wider team.
You’ll be a confident commercial professional who can operate independently, manage competing priorities and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven experience managing end-to-end procurement and sourcing activities.
- Strong understanding of tendering, procurement processes and governance.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers on commercial terms, pricing and contracts.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple sourcing projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong commercial judgement and a focus on delivering value for money.
- Public Sector Industry experience would be beneficial.
- Any experience in Rail, Transport, or Rolling Stock is advantageous.
