JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and is looking for experienced PAT engineers with the necessary equipment and insurance in place. Engineering roles are self‑employed and offer flexible hours, allowing part‑time or full‑time work.
- Employment Type: Self‑employed
- Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent
- Experience: Proven competence in line with City & Guilds 2377
- Location: Hillingdon and commutable areas
- Commute: Reasonable distance to Hillingdon; engineers may travel further as the company operates nationally
- Salary: Negotiated per job, pro‑rata basis depending on rate per appliance, number of tests, and job dynamics
As a PAT engineer, you will perform portable appliance testing on a variety of sites, including hospitals, retail outlets, and other workplaces. Your responsibilities include:
- Transporting and maintaining all testing equipment and record books
- Conducting tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, computers, and other electrical items to ensure safety compliance
- Informing users of test results and explaining reasons for any issues found
- Recording findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or on an electronic system, and providing employers with copies of reports and completion certificates
- Ensuring all equipment is calibrated at least once a year and kept in good working order in line with regulations
- Managing time between multiple sites efficiently and staying organised throughout the day
Each day on the job varies, but it generally involves travelling between sites, conducting tests, recording data, and communicating results. The work is physically and mentally demanding but offers a varied schedule and opportunities for skill development and advancement.
Qualifications & Expectations- Certified in City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent
- Reliable, honest, and possessing a "can‑do" attitude
- Ability to operate solo or as part of a team, keeping all tests accurate and efficient
- Strong organisational skills and adherence to safety regulations
