Pay: £17.00 - £18.00 per hour

We are currently seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a friendly primary school in Northwood. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with practical maintenance skills who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the school site, ensuring that the premises are well-maintained, secure, and compliant with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities Site Security- Opening the school each morning and securing the premises as required.
- Conducting routine security checks around the school buildings and grounds.
- Responding to alarm activations where necessary.
- Managing access for contractors and visitors.
- Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.
- Replacing light bulbs and undertaking basic decorating duties.
- Reporting larger maintenance issues to the school leadership team or external contractors.
- Conducting regular health and safety inspections.
- Ensuring fire exits, walkways, and communal areas remain clear and safe.
- Monitoring the condition of playground equipment and outdoor areas.
- Supporting fire drills and emergency procedures.
- Keeping playgrounds, pathways, and entrances clean and safe.
- Litter picking and maintaining outdoor areas.
- Carrying out basic gardening tasks, including weeding, hedge trimming, and leaf clearance.
- Gritting pathways during adverse weather conditions.
- Checking that toilets, classrooms, and communal areas are maintained to a high standard.
- Ensuring essential supplies such as soap and paper towels are replenished.
- Supporting with room and hall set-ups for assemblies, school events, and parent evenings.
- Receiving deliveries and assisting with storage management.
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, site supervision, or a similar role.
- Good practical DIY and maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining high standards.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. Applicants must either hold a current Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to undergo a new DBS application as part of the recruitment process.
