Imperial College London is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational management of Mechanical and Electrical building services across allocated campus buildings, ensuring services are safe, efficient and delivered to agreed standards.

This is a primarily site-based role, providing visible leadership and technical oversight for maintenance operations. Working closely with maintenance colleagues, contractors, Property teams and project teams, you will help ensure buildings and plant operate reliably, support campus activity and meet Imperial’s policies, statutory requirements and service expectations.

What you would be doing

In this role, you will lead local building maintenance operations, ensuring Mechanical and Electrical assets are maintained effectively and that key maintenance priorities and risks are managed. You will support plant replacement planning, maintain accurate records in Planon, and work with colleagues to improve building performance and resilience.

You will monitor maintenance delivery, contractor performance and SLA/KPI outcomes, escalating issues where necessary. You will also ensure statutory compliance, risk assessments and permits are in place, and coordinate mechanical and electrical shutdowns. You will manage and develop a multidisciplinary maintenance team, ensuring safe and effective service delivery, while providing technical support to colleagues and coordinating responses to incidents when required.

What

we are looking for
  • A recognised professional qualification in Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Proven experience in building services, maintenance management or a closely related technical environment
  • Experience achieving quality and value for money in the management of Mechanical and Electrical equipment within buildings
  • Experience managing and developing multidisciplinary maintenance teams
  • Experience planning and organising Mechanical and Electrical shutdowns and working within service level frameworks and improving SLA performance
  • Experience planning and implementing long-term maintenance programmes and minor works with minimal disruption to building users
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation, CDM Regulations and statutory compliance requirements
  • A thorough working knowledge of building services equipment and systems found in complex or high-tech buildings
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to manage budgets, report on performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • A flexible, proactive and responsible approach, with the ability to manage competing demands and make sound operational decisions
