- Fri + one weekend in 3 for which 2 week days are taken as rest days. 0800 – 1630 Mon

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Conservation and Community Engagement Ranger at the nationally and internationally recognised Burnham Beeches and Stoke Common which together consist of 300 ha of ancient woodland, wood pasture, valley bog and heathland visited by over 600,000 people each year.

You will be part of a team responsible for all aspects of care of these two important nature reserves and open spaces in Buckinghamshire.

Your role will be to help mitigate the potentially negative impacts of increased recreation activities brought about by new housing development around Burnham Beeches SAC.

You will provide a visible, approachable and proactive Ranger presence and support the wider Ranger team by leading on and further developing public engagement to increase understanding and achieve sustainable outcomes for the site alongside providing a positive visitor experience, high quality customer care and uniformed patrols.

You will help deliver and develop monitoring, engagement, information and campaigns to engage with local recreational communities, residents and visitors. You will also develop and lead volunteers, delivering projects to support your work.

To meet the challenges of this post, you will have proven experience of public engagement within a countryside setting and be able to work effectively in a team and alone. You should have excellent communication skills to deal with a wide range of visitors, interested stakeholders and partners. You should hold an appropriate qualification (minimum of HND level or equivalent) in a countryside management, conservation, environmental science, interpretation or related discipline and you need to have a full driving licence.

This is an engagement role that requires a positive attitude loads of energy and a passion to deliver innovative and creative messaging for sustainable behaviour change. It is a varied and flexible role working an average 37 hours per week and an average of one weekend in three. Your duties will often require you to work outside.
