Job Description & How to Apply Below

14 Water St, Building D1/D2, London, E14 5GX
, UNITED KINGDOM

Crate Wood Wharf is our newest venue, and we're looking for a Shift Leader to help keep it running at its best.

This is the job that holds a shift together. You'll be on the floor and behind the bar, making sure service flows, guests are looked after, and the team has what it needs to do their best work. You're the link between the team and senior leaders: the person who spots the problem before it becomes one, and the one people come to when something needs sorting.

We're after someone who is open, honest, straight-talking, and genuinely good with people.

What you'll be doing

Bar service, greeting people as they arrive and come to the bar

Talking people through the menu and making recommendations where needed

Running pizzas to tables in good time

Handling questions and complaints properly, including when a manager isn't on site

Being an ambassador for Crate whenever you're on site

Running the shift

Overseeing service so it flows, with the right people in the right roles

Escalating what needs escalating, eg staff disputes, guest complaints, quality concerns

Keeping the venue looking and feeling its best: layout, lighting, music, temperature

Staying calm and methodical throughout service

Standards and safety

Being the eyes and ears of the team, flagging developing risk situations to a manager or security

Toilet checks and tidies, back of house, staff areas and waste management

Correct stock storage and beer lines kept to the highest standard

Reporting and chasing maintenance issues quickly

Opening and closing

Opening up and having the venue ready to welcome guests by 12:00

Printing and completing the paperwork:
Opening Briefs, Toilet Checklists, Close Down Sheets, Waste Sheets, compliance diary

Opening the EOD system and writing an accurate End of Day report for your shift

Checking everyone has clocked in and out

Assigning and signing off closing tasks

Logging lost property in the EOD report and securing it

Ensuring the building is secure on close

What we're looking for

Experience leading shifts or supervising in a busy bar, pub or restaurant

Someone who'd rather deal with a problem than pass it on

Real interest in beer and drinks, and the appetite to learn our range properly

Confidence handling a complaint or a difficult guest on your own

Availability across a variable rota, including evenings and weekends

What you get
  • Free staff meal and a drink on shift, plus staff soft drinks
  • Generous staff discount across the whole company - bars and online shop
  • Summer and winter whole-company staff parties
  • Cycle to work bicycle loan scheme
  • Employee assistance programme
Screening Questions
  • Do you have experience in a similar role?
  • Will your commute be 20 minutes or less?
  • Describe your customer service experience
