Senior Design Manager

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Design Manager to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor on a landmark film studios development in North London,.

The project is a large-scale, technically complex industrial scheme incorporating groundworks, drainage and steel frame construction, offering the chance to play a key role in a high-profile development within the creative and media sector.

The contractor is a well-established, highly respected Tier 1 business with a strong track record of delivering complex projects across industrial, commercial and mixed-use sectors. Continued growth has created the need to strengthen the design leadership team on this scheme.

As Senior Design Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the design management function on the project, providing leadership, coordination and technical assurance from pre-construction through to delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design process from pre-construction through to project completion
• Planning, tracking and managing consultant and subcontractor design deliverables
• Ensuring design quality, coordination and compliance with statutory and employer’s requirements
• Undertaking design assurance, buildability and technical reviews
• Managing and mitigating design-related risk and identifying value engineering opportunities
• Leading and controlling design change, including programme and cost impact assessments
• Maintaining accurate records of all design submissions, approvals and reviews
• Working closely with construction, commercial and procurement teams to ensure aligned delivery
• Providing leadership, mentoring and support to Design Managers and Assistant Design Managers within the team

• Proven experience in a Senior Design Manager or Design Manager role on major projects
• Background working for a Tier 1 or large main contractor
• Strong knowledge of RIBA Stages 3–6
• Extensive experience on site-based project delivery
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage complex interfaces
• Relevant professional qualification (preferred but not essential)
