Environmental Manager (Grade: 5.1)
Location:
London, N17 0FJ
Hours:
40 hours weekly (Weekend, Bank Holiday and out of hours working when required)

- Ensure all allocated work is completed to contractual standard on schedule through independent and joint formal monitoring.
- Ensure staff, including agency staff, are fully trained for their duties and compliant with Health and Safety regulations, achieved by training and mentoring.
- Allocate work and staff to carry out scheduled work as per the contract.
- Ensure safety, security and cleanliness of vehicles, plant and tools used within street cleansing service.
- Supervise collections operatives and teams to ensure daily work meets appropriate standard, is signed off, filed and recorded.
- Identify staff shortfalls, redeploy existing staff or order agency staff where appropriate.
- Liaise daily with drivers and crews of all vehicles, issuing instructions, debriefing on completion, progress checks using company communication systems and on‑site spot checks.
- Address issues related to driver hours via Tachos and Vision.
- Adhere to agreed policies and procedures.
- Ensure disposal of waste complies with statutory rules and regulations.
- Carry out health and safety, quality and environmental inspections, risk assessments, complete documentation and brief staff as required.
- Maintain a good relationship with the public, clients, customers, trade unions and company representatives, dealing courteously with complaints and enquiries in a professional manner and in accordance with contractual targets; attend site meetings when required.
- Ensure daily pre‑start checks for all street cleansing vehicles, evidence with completed pre‑start check sheet and report defects to ensure prompt repairs/maintenance are carried out.
- Essential:
Previous managerial experience, 5+ years in environmental services (public or private sector), full valid driving licence, experience in customer and key influencer contact, organisational skills. - Desirable:
Proven track record in a similar role, waste management experience.
