Assistant Engineering Manager (London)
Arriva UK Bus is looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to join our London team. This key leadership role ensures our fleet remains safe, reliable and ready to meet the demands of one of the world’s busiest transport networks.
About the RoleAs Assistant Engineering Manager you will lead workshop teams, maintain high engineering standards and keep vehicles ready for service. You will bring technical expertise and leadership to support a fast‑paced, high‑demand urban network where reliability and safety are critical.
What You’ll Be Doing- Oversee daily workshop operations, ensuring efficiency, safety and cost control.
- Maximise fleet availability to support consistent service across London routes.
- Ensure rapid response to breakdowns and defects, minimising disruption.
- Maintain high standards of repair, MOT preparation and compliance.
- Carry out quality audits and ensure all maintenance records are accurate and up to date.
- Work closely with operational teams to manage vehicle allocation and availability.
- Lead on Health & Safety, promoting a strong safety‑first culture.
- Supervise, motivate and develop the team to perform at their best.
- Remain hands‑on when required, supporting mechanical, electrical and servicing work.
- Strong engineering experience in vehicle, HGV or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Experience working in a high‑demand urban transport environment (London experience is a plus).
- A recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship (mechanical/electrical or equivalent).
- Solid knowledge of Health & Safety practices (IOSH desirable).
- Proven leadership ability with a track record of managing and developing teams.
- A proactive, resilient approach suited to a fast‑paced city operation.
