Position type:
Permanent, Full time, 35 hours per week.

Salary: GBP
66,000 – GBP
70,000 per annum (London weighted) or GBP
58,000 – GBP
62,000 per annum (regional), dependent on experience.

Grade: 11.

Reporting office:
London – Stratford or Manchester – Trafford.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled, driven and experienced Senior Environmental Manager to join our Sustainability Team. The role will oversee environmental management and performance across all work related operations, including construction and operational activities, and will lead the delivery of a new Environmental Management System under the organisation's 5 year Environment & Climate Change Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company policies, deliver and manage an Environmental Management System.
  • Develop and implement environmental action plans in alignment with environmental legislation and internal sustainability policies.
  • Provide expert environmental advice and support and drive continuous improvement.
  • Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement best practice and contribute to the organisation's environmental objectives.
  • Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues and ensure that responsible business areas and supply chain are appropriately trained.
  • Support L&Q's environmental sustainability approach, delivering analysis and strengthening reporting across new development, procurement, supply chain and maintenance.
  • Evaluate current policies and practices and ensure that strategies, plans and performance indicators are underpinned by high quality data analysis and forecasting.
  • Complete annual carbon reporting (per Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting) and climate risk reporting.
  • Use and develop internal and external tools to deliver carbon emissions reporting, forecasting and modelling to support the roadmap to net zero and assess mitigation measures for flood and overheating risks.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance and support when collaborating with the Lead Sustainability Programme Manager, Sustainability Manager and cross functional teams such as Development, Construction, Maintenance, Energy, GIS and Finance.
  • Prepare briefing notes on relevant sustainability regulations and develop materials and content on sustainability priorities.
  • Ensure that resident benefit is at the heart of everything, supporting a fair transition to net zero.
What You'll Bring
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related field, and professional membership with a recognised environmental body (ISEP) – Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or Practitioner level minimum (PISEP).
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 50001 systems, including completion of environmental impact and risk assessments.
  • Experience in a similar role with a proven track record of delivering successful sustainability projects.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental policies, procedures and practices within the construction sector.
  • Experience in incident management, investigations, environmental performance auditing and data collection, monitoring and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and planning frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing training matrices.
