Service Manager - Outpatients

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Corporate Outpatients Services for an inspirational, driven and motivated Outpatient Service Manager to join the operational team, to support and manage the Outpatient Central Booking Service Team at St Georges Hospital.

This is a fantastic time to be joining the department as we continue the deployment of our digital strategy, develop and embed new ways of providing services and work toward using our workforce more effectively. This role allows you to play a pivotal part in this and provides an opportunity to influence one of the country’s highest profile NHS Trusts.

The role provides an opportunity to support the Trust and the Directorate to ensure the efficient and effective day‑to‑day running of vital outpatient booking services, deliver key quality and performance indicators and champion key service improvements.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an experienced, innovative and strong leader. Possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to work well under pressure, meet the challenges of working to deadlines and be comfortable working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. You will have excellent managerial skills and experience – someone who is positive and focused on delivering service excellence – and can lead a large team to achieve service change positively and effectively to deliver departmental and Trust strategic objectives.

We are a multi‑site outpatient operation and the successful candidate may be expected to work across sites if appropriate, demonstrating flexibility and providing support as and when required. (Hospital transport is available between sites).

You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the NHS and the current operational performance agenda and how performance and service delivery is managed across a large complex organisation.

Knowledge
  • Awareness and understanding of national policy concerning patient care and developments within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures in the NHS.
  • Keeps abreast of national and local developments in health and social care and local data e.g. survey data on quality outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the trust IT systems (iclip, EDM, E‑triage).
Skills
  • Evidence of problem‑solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
  • Plans collaboratively with others, co‑ordinates and monitors the delivery of services and/or projects with clear quality indicators and timescales.
  • Considers how plans impact on other areas and actively works with those areas to ensure a positive outcome.
Qualifications and Training
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification/equivalent level of experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of service review.
  • Managerial qualification, acquired through degree or equivalent experience sufficient to demonstrate the necessary operational management experience required including staff and financial management.
Experience
  • Significant professional knowledge of performance management and staff management gained through experience and formal training.
  • Evidence of waiting‑list management as appropriate to role.
  • Evidence of successful operational leadership and effective involvement in change management.
