South Herts Golf Club is seeking an experienced Course Manager to lead the maintenance, presentation, and long-term development of its 27-hole private members' course. Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the greenkeeping team, manage course improvement projects, and deliver exceptional playing conditions year-round.

DescriptionSouth Herts Golf Club is seeking an exceptional Course Manager to lead and develop one of North London s most prestigious and strategically ambitious golf facilities.
Set in a 150-acre estate in Totteridge, just 12 miles from central London, South Herts is a 27-hole complex that combines rich heritage with a clear, funded commitment to continuous course investment and improvement. We are focused on raising course standards, delivering a long-term programme of investment and implementing an ambitious development plan designed to establish South Herts amongst the leading members’ clubs in the region.
This is a career-defining leadership role for a driven, progressive Course Manager who wants to deliver excellence, influence investment and shape the future of a high-profile private members club.
The roleReporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Greens Committee, leading a team of experienced greenkeeping staff and a six-figure annual course budget, you will:
- Lead the conditioning, presentation and agronomic performance of all 27 holes
- Develop and deliver a 5–10 year course-improvement strategy
- Deliver consistent, high-quality, year-round playing conditions
- Plan and execute capital projects across drainage, irrigation, bunkering and pathways
- Manage budgets, resources and procurement effectively
- Build, develop and motivate a high-performing, accountable team
- Champion sustainable, environmentally responsible practice
- Communicate clearly with members, the Committee and stakeholders
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Greenkeeping / Sports Turf Management
- Minimum 5 years experience as a Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper or Deputy Head Greenkeeper
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates
- Chainsaw certificate(s)
- Proven competence in the operation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems
- Strong working knowledge of fine-turf machinery
- Up-to-date knowledge of workplace and on-course Health & Safety
- A track record of measurable improvement in course quality and presentation
- Demonstrable leadership and people-management ability
- Experience of course construction (tees, bunkers, drainage, pathways)
- Budget and capital project management experience
- Good IT skills and confidence with course-management software
- Commitment to continued professional development
