As a Sampling Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping and leading an in-house sampling capability that supports Thames Water’s largest upgrade in 150 years.

This is a great opportunity to lead a new team and build a culture that will help deliver savings for Thames Water by delivering excellent sampling services in-house for major projects & programmes.

You’ll lead, train, and develop a team from the ground up, creating a strong team culture, embedding robust processes, and ensuring high-quality sampling operations aligned with regulatory and project requirements.

Please note, the internal title for this role is Capital Delivery Sampling Manager.

What you’ll be doing as our Sampling Manager
  • Lead and develop the new Capital Delivery Sampling team, building a strong safety culture.
  • Contribute to long-term planning for sampling needs across capital programmes for Waste and Clean Water.
  • Develop and maintain robust procedures for sampling, analysis, and data management.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and contracts to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery.

Base location can be flexible between Reading and London, with travel expected around our region.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday, 36 hours a week.

What you should bring to the role

You’ll need to be a confident leader and a strong communicator, with experience managing operational delivery in a busy, multi-stakeholder environment. You should also be comfortable supporting teams through change.

  • Proven experience in water or waste sampling, environmental monitoring, or a related field such as oil/gas, food production or other utility industry.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards.
  • Degree or experience in environmental science, water quality, or project management.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, budget management, and change management skills.
