Description

Technical Production Manager

The role…

We are looking for a Technical Production Manager to lead the technical team at The London Palladium.

As an integral part of the venue’s management team, the Technical Production Manager will provide clear and consistent leadership to the technical departments and will ensure excellent working practices are developed to deliver our brand mission; to stage the extraordinary.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Production Manager will be responsible for the practical application of the Company’s Health and Safety policy across both technical theatre operations and building services management while ensuring the financial management of the department. They will deliver the highest standard of customer experience to all productions entering the venue and will oversee a safe and smooth operation in the delivery of venue activities, maintenance of the building, its services and infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

The Technical department is split into two distinct areas of responsibility:
1) the resident production and
2) the venue. The Technical Production Manager’s primary focus is the delivery of the Group’s commitments to the incoming productions. In addition, you will manage the Technical & Building Services Manager who manages the technical team, whose primary focus is the delivery of the Group’s commitments to the incoming production, and the venue technicians, whose primary focus is the proactive remedial actions to ensure that the venue remains safe & up to date.

Working closely with the General Manager, Operations Manager and Technical & Building Services Manager you will:

Show/Events
  • Lead the delivery of the Company’s commitments to the Incoming Productions and all venue stakeholders from a technical perspective, recognizing and balancing their competing needs with those of the theatre.
  • Arrange and conduct Change of Production Inspections with the relevant local authority for all new shows, ensuring that any recommendations following that inspection are complied with.
  • Ensure Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments, Method Statements & truck plans in place prior to fitting up and getting out of productions.
  • Attend site and production meetings prior to a production and provide advice on all technical, licensing or Health & Safety issues that may arise. Manage the Technical Standards for Places of Public Entertainment operations, as well as Local Authority Rules of Management and other relevant legislation, regulation, guidance, ACOP etc.
  • Lead in the advancing of all concerts and events at The London Palladium.
  • Keep a running cost of any additional items not included in the standard contracts for productions and provide to the General Manager and Operations Manager in advance of any event.
  • Ensure the CDM (2015) Regulations are being properly implemented in relation to productions and events, both internally and by visiting production companies and event promoters. Will ensure that the Company is fulfilling its obligations as the Principal Contractor, or Principal Designer or Contractor.
  • Act as the responsible person on site from a Westminster licensing perspective during shows & events, sharing this responsibility with the Technical & Building Services Manager & their Deputies.
Staffing
  • Foster a positive working environment amongst theatre staff, ensuring that members of staff are kept appraised of both their responsibilities and entitlements.
  • Proactively arrange technical staff calls to work to meet the operational budgets and cost requirements of events, productions and the Company and notify technical staff of their calls to work in accordance with the provisions of their employment agreement. Make sure that adequate rest periods are being given which comply with the Working Time Directive & local working arrangements.
