You will lead the energy team’s data and market monitoring function. This includes managing a team of up to 8 data specialists. The team works with a range of data sources, including from Citizens Advice service, commissioned research, statutory information requests to firms and regulators, and publicly available data from government and other bodies.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across the energy team, as well as our data and AI, public affairs, campaigns and media teams to maximise impact for energy consumers.
Through collaboration, expertise, and effective use of data and technology, the team partners with leads across energy and the wider organisation to:
- Embed best practices in data throughout our energy work, including training and upskilling the team.
- Focus on delivering clear, accurate, and actionable insights that influence stakeholders and support energy market monitoring by the regulator and other partners.
- Produce creative data insights that demonstrate consumer and client experience, respond to policy issues and get external cut through.
- Oversee production and ongoing improvement of our energy supplier star rating and other data releases.
- Work closely with other teams - including our central data and AI team - to ensure data outcomes align with organisational priorities.
- Engage with stakeholders in government, regulator and other bodies to access data and share insights. This includes best practice sharing of data using our legal powers and duties as the statutory consumer advocate.
- Use the systems and data resources that are available to their full potential, taking a continuous improvement approach.
- Develop innovative solutions to be more efficient and influential, including through appropriate use of AI tools.
The team has a collaborative culture that actively breaks down silos through clear dotted lines to expert policy teams, knowledge sharing and building collective intelligence. We maintain a shared purpose focused on our statutory advocacy obligations, mission-driven working and improving client outcomes.
The team supports the organisation’s strategy and mission by collecting, analysing, and sharing data that informs strategic decisions and strengthens effectiveness of our energy advice development. By making effective use of data we can measure the success of our interventions and enable evidence-based decisions and influencing. This fosters accountability to our stakeholders and clearly demonstrates our impact to funders and clients.
You’ll support our wider energy advocacy work as well as supporting junior members of the team to reach their potential. Our strong brand will give you unique opportunities to engage with those who have the power to make change. You’ll help influence regulators, MPs, civil servants, industry on behalf of energy consumers and the people who rely on Citizens Advice.
We’re looking for someone with a wide range of skills, from exceptional data analysis and stakeholder management skills, to being able to lead in a large organisation.
