Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are seeking an established housing executive to take responsibility for a major London Local Authority housing portfolio and play a central role in the council’s corporate leadership.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and sitting on the Executive Management Team, you will lead the directorate’s strategy, performance and improvement. The remit spans housing needs and homelessness, landlord services, asset management, repairs and investment, building safety and private sector housing.
This is a significant leadership assignment, requiring someone who can establish a clear direction, make difficult decisions and translate political priorities into measurable improvements for residents.
The assignment
* Take executive accountability for housing services, ensuring statutory responsibilities and regulatory requirements are met.
* Lead the Housing Revenue Account and investment strategy, aligning financial decisions with service priorities and the long-term condition of the housing stock.
* Drive transformation across the directorate, strengthening leadership, performance and accountability.
* Address pressures across homelessness, rough sleeping and temporary accommodation, alongside improvements to landlord services.
* Build effective relationships with elected members, residents, housing providers and delivery partners.
* Contribute to council-wide priorities and corporate programmes, including deputising for the Chief Executive as required.
The person
You will bring substantial senior housing leadership experience in a politically led environment, with the judgement and credibility to operate at executive level.
We are particularly interested in leaders who can demonstrate:
* Delivery of significant housing service improvement or organisational change.
* Strong financial leadership across substantial housing budgets and investment programmes.
* Relevant expertise across housing strategy, landlord services, housing needs, assets, repairs or building safety.
* Confidence working with elected members and navigating complex, high-profile decisions.
* Inclusive leadership that establishes clear expectations and holds services and partners to account
