Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) – Injection Moulding

Salary: £48,000 or £52,000 (plus a 12.5% shift allowance)
The Mechanical Engineer will provide specialist engineering support for injection moulding operations at Hallite Seals International. The role ensures that moulding machinery, tooling, and associated mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably to meet production, quality, and business performance targets.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain injection moulding machines and related equipment.
- Work with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drive systems to maximise machine uptime.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on failures and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and machine history information.
- Work closely with Process Technicians to identify and resolve mechanical issues affecting cycle time, scrap, and part quality.
- Support setup, trials, and validation of mould tools and new materials.
- Monitor machine performance and recommend improvements to enhance OEE.
- Provide rapid‑response support to minimise production disruptions.
- Assist with the specification, installation, and commissioning of new moulding machines and peripheral equipment (dryers, chillers, robots, hot runner systems).
- Support machine upgrades, rebuilds, and retrofits to improve performance and reliability.
- Liaise with external suppliers and contractors during major maintenance activities.
- Ensure all machinery complies with PUWER, LOLER, HSE, and internal safety standards.
- Conduct engineering risk assessments and support safe systems of work.
- Maintain technical documentation including drawings, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture across maintenance and production teams.
- Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Toolroom, and Engineering teams.
- Support CI initiatives including Kaizen, Lean, 5S, and waste reduction activities.
- Contribute technical input to NPI (New Product Introduction) and development projects.
- Strong mechanical engineering background, ideally in injection moulding or heavy industrial machinery.
- Hands‑on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives, and machine structures.
- Strong problem‑solving skills (RCA, 5 Why, Ishikawa).
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of industrial machine safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Experience in plastics, moulding, or sealing product manufacturing.
- Knowledge of automation, robotics, or hot runner systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems.
- Lean or CI certification (e.g., Yellow Belt)
