CNC Wood Shop Machinist

Hours:

This is a late shift position, either from 12:00 PM‑8:00 PM or 1:00 PM‑9:00 PM (TBC).

• Set and operate wood machinery, including CNC, Router, Beam Saw and Edge Bander (Homag and Biesse brands).
• Interpret technical drawings and manufacturing data to produce parts.
• Set up tooling, calibrate machinery, and monitor production runs to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
• Work closely with the design and engineering teams to optimise CNC programs and production flow.
• Ensure materials are available for jobs and liaise with purchasing regarding due dates when required.
• Book finished job tickets on the system and move goods to their next location in the building.
• Communicate issues, quality concerns, shortages, and material problems quickly and clearly.
• Perform quality checks on finished products using basic maths to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Conduct routine maintenance checks and troubleshoot issues as needed.
• Ensure all products meet fire safety and quality compliance standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in line with company H&S procedures.
• Handle materials safely, ensuring proper storage and organisation within the warehouse environment.
• Collaborate with team members in assembly and other areas, showing willingness to learn other machines, materials and processes as most of the workforce is multi‑skilled.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production documentation.
• Understanding of wood machining, tooling, and production processes.
• Experience with tools.
• Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and problem‑solving skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively with autonomy, and as part of a multi‑disciplinary late‑shift team.
• Experience as a CNC Operator/Programmer in the woodworking or joinery manufacturing sector.
• Experience with Beam Saw and Edge Bander machines.
• Able to learn and work on additional machines.
• Forklift licence is useful.
• CNC programming: 2 years (preferred).
