Team overview

Ofcom's mission is to make communications work for everyone. We are looking for an experienced social media influencer and partnerships manager to help explain Ofcom's work in online safety, and other policy areas. Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day. We regulate services from phone and broadband to TV and radio, airwaves and the postal service.

And, crucially for this role, we've taken on new duties to make online services safer for everyone. It's important work on behalf of people across the UK. The industries Ofcom regulates are evolving fast, making this an exciting time to join our team. High-quality, reliable communications services have never mattered more to people's lives, and making the online world safer is a generational task.

The Campaigns Manager sits in Ofcom's fast-paced, welcoming and expert Communications Department - previously judged by PR Week as the best place to work in-house in the UK.

Purpose of the Role

The Communications Partnerships Manager will identify, recruit and manage relationships with a roster of ambassadors (or 'influencers'), and partners, who will help explain important information about online safety to social media audiences. This is a hands-on role with full responsibility for managing Ofcom's relationships with these individuals, from start to finish. This is likely to include using research tools to scope and shortlist potential social media influencers and other partners;

initiating contact with them or their representatives; conducting due diligence to ensure they are appropriate, responsible spokespeople for online safety and other policy areas; negotiating terms; and working with selected influencers – in partnership with other Communications colleagues – on messaging and outcomes. We are looking for someone with a strong combination of influencer marketing and relationship-management experience. You'll be immersed in digital media channels and fluent in what works on different platforms and with distinct audiences.

You will have expert knowledge and experience of knowing when, where and why influencers can be a pivotal part of communicating with the public – and explaining that to senior internal stakeholders. You'll be bringing a wide range of people on board, and you'll be central to how we communicate vital information to the public about online safety.

Key responsibilities
  • Use a range of tools to identify a large number of online partners, both individual influencers and bodies, who have the interests, remit and reach to communicate online safety, and other policy areas, credibly to new audiences.
  • Work closely with our Insights and Evaluation Lead, both in selecting potential partners and measuring the reach and impact of all influencer-led communications.
  • Be responsible for all due diligence on potential partners to ensure they are reputable, uncontentious and would not pose any conflicts of interest in working with Ofcom on online safety or other policy areas.
  • Directly manage the relationship with a wide range of concurrent partners, and/or their representatives, from initial contact and negotiations, right through to the provision of contracts in partnership with Ofcom's Procurement team.
Essential Skills, knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrable experience in digital communications, including a strong track record in forming and managing influencer relationships.
  • In-depth understanding of modern digital communications, with the ability to make strategic recommendations about which channels and spokespeople are most effective for particular messages or audiences.
  • Executing Plans:
    Excellent organisational or skills, with a thorough approach to delivery and enthusiasm for managing concurrent projects and ensuring that milestones are met.
  • A proven commitment to measurement and evaluation, with experience…
