Location: Greater London

About the team:

The Media team is at the heart of Web Summit, making sure that the world’s most influential
media attend, speak at and cover our events across the world. The team facilitates the best
experience for the media during Web Summits, facilitating discussion and driving coverage
across multiple platforms.

The Media team works with journalists on a daily basis, making sure that every significant
media outlet, reporter and creator across the globe - whatever their platform - knows about,
travels to and covers our events. In doing so, we drive awareness of our events as the world’s premier tech conferences - and of Web Summit as the world’s leading tech conference business.

The team also secures the most impactful and relevant moderators for our stage content;
arranges interviews, live podcasts, creator content, press conferences and announcements;
tracks and analyses coverage; sources and highlights relevant content for attending media;
and works closely with Web Summit’s key teams to ensure the maximum impact and visibility of their work.

The Role:

You'd support Web Summit’s media and communications team in building relationships with
Chinese journalists and media organisations, particularly across Mainland China, Hong
Kong, Taiwan and other Chinese-speaking markets.

The ideal candidate is a bilingual PR/media professional who understands both Chinese and
Western media, can build relationships with journalists, identify stories that will resonate with Chinese audiences, and turn Web Summit's speakers, partners, startups and technology stories into coverage.

Who you are:
  • Native Mandarin Speaker - you are fluent, comfortable and confident in
    communicating in both Mandarin and English.
  • You have a strong understanding of the Chinese media landscape and the Chinese
    technology/business ecosystem.
  • You’re familiar with platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, Zhihu
    and other Chinese social media platforms, and are comfortable creating compelling
    Chinese-language posts, short-form video concepts, social campaigns and editorial content.
  • You’re creative, confident and articulate: a clear communicator with excellent
    presentation and interpersonal skills
  • You’re an adaptable and resourceful individual who can work to tight deadlines under
    pressure
  • You’re a strategic thinker with a proven track record of planning, executing and
    evaluating activity on a long-term basis
  • You’re an excellent team player, but with the ability to work on your own initiative
  • You’re confident using AI tools and data to help manage and focus your work
  • You have previous experience dealing with media - as a journalist, or in relevant PR
    or marketing functions.
  • You have a strong attention to detail in everything you do
  • You have a proven track record of achieving targets.
What you’ll do:
  • You’ll identify compelling stories, build relationships with journalists, coordinate
    media opportunities and help position Web Summit, its speakers, partners, investors and startups within the Chinese media ecosystem
  • You’ll combine excellent communication skills with strong news judgement, cultural awareness and an ability to work at pace in a global events environment
  • You’ll develop relationships with China’s leading media, influencers, creators, and relevant communities, and ensure they attend our events
  • You’ll manage content for WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Weibo, Douyin, Bilibili and other relevant channels
  • You’ll take ownership of a number of content stages and tracks, becoming an expert on the media outlets and individuals who report on those tracks
  • You’ll use AI and data tools to ensure maximum efficiency, while maintaining immaculate records on Salesforce
  • You’ll have the drive and ambition to convince world-renowned media professionals to speak at our events, or chair talks with other high-profile speakers
  • You’ll develop and execute coverage planning strategies with top-tier media outlets and individuals before our events
Benefits and perks:
  • - Subsidised healthcare, dental, employee assistance programme (EAP) and more.
  • - Pension contribution up to 6% (Irish-based only)
  • - A dedicated in-house L&D department, with access to workshops, online learning and resources to help you…
