The Communications Manager has the overall responsibility in developing and implementing the EARA communications strategy, managed by the Executive Director. You will:

Manage the EARA communications team in its day-to-day duties

Ensure editorial consistency across the EARA team

Develop key messaging and ensure that these are delivered across the relevant communications channels

Manage the monitoring of legacy media, social media and other stakeholder publications on animal research, policy issues and good practice in communications.

Manage the creation of high-quality and engaging science-based content in a variety of formats, depending on the purpose and target audience, for example case studies, news stories, blogs, newsletters, posts for social media channels and more.

Manage the writing, editing, production and distribution of internal communications information on EARA activities to our membership, including the weekly EARA News Digest, EARA Policy Briefing and Quarterly Member Newsletter.

Develop and maintain good relationships with relevant media publications and journalists

Develop outreach training, workshops, and presentations on good practice in communications for stakeholders

Manage the EARA Institutional Website study, including assessment, writing and production and the dissemination of its findings.

Undertake other reasonable tasks required by EARA when needed

Proven experience of science communications (writing & editing), media relations, social media, and website management.

An understanding of the scientific, ethical, and moral justification for animal research

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Extensive experience of creating and delivering successful science communications strategies and plans to generate impact and engagement

Ability to adapt communications to reach different stakeholder audience

Experience of engaging with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Ability to work under pressure, meet agreed deadlines, prioritise workload and maximise the use of time.

Excellent editorial and proofreading skills with great attention to detail

Ability to work both as part of a small team and independently

Evidence of ability to manage a communications team.

Evidence of public presentations

A commitment to the aims and objectives of EARA

Written and/or oral competency in another European language a benefit

To be able to work occasional evenings and weekends

Willingness to undertake occasional international travel

This is a full-time position, salary £46,000–£52,000 depending on experience, with a significant pension contribution.
