Are you passionate about heritage and sharing St John’s story with the public? Would you like to work with our Museum team on Fabric of Community:
St John Ambulance Uniform and Volunteer Identity
, a two-year project to transform the way we care for and share our extensive uniform collection.
This is a hands‑on role that will give you the opportunity to work with historic objects, all while unlocking the potential of an important and fascinating collection.
The project has been made possible with Art Fund support. What will you be doing? Working as part of a team to identify, audit and research the uniform collection. Sharing new discoveries through supporting blog posts and other public engagement activities. Representing St John positively and in line with our HEART values.
Requirements for the role?An interest in the history of St John’s lifesaving work. Passion for sharing heritage with new audiences and making good‑quality data accessible. Close attention to detail. Familiarity with Office 365. Volunteering will take place at the Museum of the Order of St John in London.
How often will you be volunteering?The commitment is one day per week, Wednesdays, 10am – 4pm. There will also be a conservation workshop on Wednesday 4 March which all team members need to attend (10am – 4pm).
What you’ll learn- Welcome and induction to the Museum team
- The history of St John, its people and its lifesaving work in communities
- How to document, research and catalogue textile collections
- How to preserve and care for textile collections
- Selection activities
