Description of Job

St John’s is embarking on a New Faith Adventure—a season of growth and renewal under the leadership of our new vicar. At the heart of this new beginning is a vision to Love God, Love Each Other, and Love Archway.

In this new season, St John’s is being supported through the Hackney and Islington Programme—a catalyst initiative that fosters strategic, sustainable partnerships and church plants across the boroughs. Its aim is to nurture a mixed ecology of churches that are increasingly young, culturally diverse, rooted in low-income communities, and seeing a renewal of catholic mission.

This role is key to shaping a vibrant culture of worship at St John’s. We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes worship and prayer — someone who can help shape the spiritual heartbeat of our church family. This is a brilliant opportunity to join us at an exciting time of growth, as we build teams, grow in depth and openness to the Spirit, and step into all God has for us.

You’ll be responsible for leading and developing the worship and prayer life of St John’s, working closely with our vicar and wider team. That means not only leading sung worship on Sundays but also raising up musicians and worship leaders, overseeing technical teams, embedding rhythms of prayer in church life, and creating space for people to encounter God’s presence.

We’re looking for someone who’s musically gifted, confident leading a band, and passionate about building others up. You’ll need to be creative, organised, teachable, and full of faith — someone who loves Jesus deeply and wants to help others do the same.

This is a part-time role (14–21 hours/week), including Sundays and Tuesdays, with flexibility for the rest of the week. Some evening and weekend work will be needed around key events (like Christmas and Easter). The salary is £29,000–£34,000 pro rata, depending on experience.

If you’re excited by the idea of stepping into this New Faith Adventure with us - we’d love to hear from you.
