YMCA St Paul’s Group (SPG) is a charity and registered housing provider that aims to support young people and vulnerable adults through a range of services including supported housing, health and wellbeing, education, and family programmes.
About the roleThe Chaplain provides pastoral care and Christian chaplaincy services to residents, service users, staff, volunteers and the wider community. The role focuses on spiritual support, engagement activity delivery, network development, volunteer coordination and the embodiment of the Christian ethos across the organisation.
Responsibilities- Provide confidential spiritual care and pastoral support to residents, members of the public, visitors, staff and volunteers.
- Lead prayer and acts of worship and facilitate exploration of Christian faith and spirituality.
- Develop and deliver Christian engagement activities, including small‑group programmes, peer support, discussion‑based and retreat formats, and activities linked to incidents, festivals and celebrations.
- Build and maintain relationships with local churches, Christian agencies and other faith‑based communities to promote involvement with SPG.
- Establish and support a network of Christian chaplaincy volunteers, providing guidance for regular or ad‑hoc pastoral care.
- Champion the Christian ethos and core values, fostering an inclusive culture where staff, residents and customers feel belonging and authenticity.
- Practising Christian with a strong understanding of Christian theology.
- Significant experience in providing spiritual and pastoral support, especially to young people or vulnerable adults.
- Creative approach to faith exploration and engagement.
- Relevant qualification or training in theology or a related field (desirable).
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse community, including people of different faiths or no faith.

Position type: Part Time – 21 hours per week, Monday to Friday within office hours with occasional evening and weekend work. Working pattern to be agreed.
