Description

The Head of Funding is responsible for supporting the development of the funding strategy and leading on implementation of the funding strategy. The postholder will play a leading role in enabling the successful delivery of funding across our NHS Charities in line with our strategy, by overseeing funding activities across our NHS Charities. The post holder will also play a key role in managing relationships with important external stakeholders as well as being a key point of contact for internal stakeholders on funding management and processes.

The Head of Funding is a key member of the senior management team of the Funding and Impact team.

Key Responsibilities Leadership, strategy development and implementation
  • Support the Director of Funding & Impact in the development of a funding strategy
  • Lead on delivering and implementing the funding strategy and associated delivery plans
  • Lead the Funding Team and all of its funding activities as a core function of the Funding and Impact Team.
  • Play an active role as a senior member of the Funding and Impact Teams including team business planning and team delivery and work effectively with others across the Charity’s directorate.
  • Build partnerships with key stakeholders to drive the work of the Funding Team.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and other charity approaches to funding practices.
  • Linge manage members of the funding team, manage and mentor and develop the Funding Team.
  • Lead on effective and efficient reporting on strategy delivery and funding activity to the Charity’s Board, Committees and key partners and wider Charity team where appropriate.
  • Actively horizon-scan and provide insight on research and healthcare sector developments to develop the Charity’s approach and feed into strategy development and delivery.
Stakeholder Management
  • Work with Director of Funding and Impact to develop, build and maintain strategic partnerships with external organisations to help deliver the Charity’s goals.
  • Represent the Charity at external meetings, promote the Charity’s funding and impact activities, and network with external stakeholders and other external organisations to help deliver the Charity’s goals.
  • Be the main point of contact for internal stakeholders, such as systems, finance and funding operations to support funding management and processes.
Funding assessment and management
  • Responsible for overseeing all of our funding activities across our NHS charities ensuring implementation of robust funding processes and schemes to support funding of impactful and high-quality projects.
  • Working closely with the Director of Funding and Impact to identify and develop a pipeline of funding opportunities from our partner organisation.
  • Working closely with Funding Managers to lead subsequent development, assessment and funding consideration of funding opportunities.
  • Overseeing the management of funding committees, ensuring preparation of high-quality papers, in a timely manner, for advisory and decision-making Committees and meetings.
  • Oversee the management of successful set-up, ongoing facilitation and monitoring of progress of funded project to ensure projects are delivering impact, on time and to budget.
  • Lead on development of robust funding policies in line with sector best practice.
  • Lead on working across partners and charity to facilitate optimum and impactful use of Special Purpose Funds held by charity in line with funding strategy.
  • Working with finance teams to ensure appropriate financial reporting and information is available across our funding portfolio.
  • Lead on financial and operational planning in-year, at mid-year review and in planning for future years, in line with our strategy.
  • Working closely with the Head of Impact Evaluation and Information to ensure evaluation and learning are embedded at every stage of the funding cycle.
