We are looking for a Next Generation Lead to help us grow and develop our ministry with children, young people and families, both within the church and across our parish. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about seeing children and young people know Jesus, grow in faith as disciples of Jesus and find a genuine sense of belonging within the life of the church.

Beyond the church doors, the Next Generation will also focus on building links, developing relationships and pioneering new initiatives that share the love of Christ and the hope found in Him to the wider community.

This is a permanent full time role, 37.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop our children's and youth community and teaching programmes at St John’s, encourage children to grow in their faith, knowledge of the bible and being a lifelong disciple of Jesus.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of children and youth ministries and activities including Sunday and midweek provision.
  • Regularly lead within children's and youth contexts, modelling discipleship and championing team members in their gifts and leadership.
  • Build, support, encourage & maintain volunteer teams fostering a culture of encouragement, ownership and growth.
  • Create and facilitate opportunities for children and young people to contribute to worship, ministry, and church life.
  • Create, develop and deliver key events and seasonal moments, (e holiday clubs, outreach events).
  • Build and strengthen relationships with local schools through assemblies, church visits, clubs, mentoring, and other appropriate outreach activities, in accordance with safeguarding requirements.
  • Work with the pastoral team to support families and encourage faith and discipleship in the home.
  • Work collaboratively with the Vicar, staff, PCC members, and volunteers to develop and deliver a clear vision and strategy for the next generation, ensuring alignment with the wider mission of St John’s.
  • To follow and uphold the church's safeguarding policies, procedures and practices for all children and youth ministries, working in accordance with relevant safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and Church of England safeguarding requirements.
About You
  • Is a committed evangelical Christian, in love with Jesus, who actively lives out their faith that aligns with Biblical teaching and hold a spirit led Christian faith
  • Is committed to being a full and active member of the church, supporting its mission, aims and values.
  • Has a heart for children, young people and families, with experience of working with them and the ability to build positive, appropriate relationships.
  • Is a self-starter who can use initiative, develop ideas and bring new programmes and activities to life.
  • Can build, encourage and develop volunteer teams, helping others grow in confidence and use their gifts.
  • Has a passion for discipleship and outreach, both within the church and across the wider parish.
  • Is able to work collaboratively across multiple ministries and with others.
Occupational requirement

The role has an occupational requirement that the successful candidate must be a practising Christian under the Equalities Act 2010.

St John’s Beckenham is a friendly, growing evangelical church within the Church of England in Beckenham, bringing all ages together.

Our vision is we exist to love Jesus, become more like Him and make Him known. Serving Beckenham with His love and bringing hope to this generation. We IMAGINE MORE of Jesus known, more lives transformed and more hope released.

We have a growing ministry among children and young people. We currently run youth groups and children’s groups on Sunday, as well as youth group during the week, and we have dedicated and passionate volunteers who make this a reality. We have an average Sunday attendance of 10-20 under 18s at our 10:30am service.
