Overview
Sister/Charge Nurse Breast Surgery - Band 6 s is an exciting time at St Bartholomew's Hospital as we look forward to opening our dedicated Breast Cancer centre, bringing all services together to improve patient care and experience. We are recruiting Band 6 nurses with significant experience in breast surgery and/or other cancer or acute settings to join cancer surgical inpatient and day case wards.
Applications are welcome from those with recent Band 6 experience or Band 5 nurses with relevant clinical experience. Development opportunities include Band 6 leadership, in-house and external training, and support from the practice education team.
- Work as part of a team of registered nurses, nursing associates, and health care support workers to deliver safe, effective care to patients within the clinical area.
- Collaborate with the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure clinical standards are achieved and participate in the audit of clinical care.
- Coordinate the activities of the clinical area as required, including deputising.
- Registered Nurse.
- Post-registration qualification in relevant area (e.g., Cancer/Breast Care).
- Practice Assessor / supervisor qualification or teaching qualification.
- IV therapy competency.
- Experience working as Band 5 or Band 6 in an acute cancer or surgical ward setting.
- Teaching others.
- Taking charge of a clinical area.
- Experience supervising others.
- Knowledge of cancer patient clinical issues, including common emergencies and their management.
- Understanding of Cancer/Oncology/Breast Surgery.
- Knowledge of cancer patient pathways.
- Knowledge of audit and data collection.
- Understanding of the NHS Plan and current NHS issues.
- Ability to support and motivate others.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective prioritisation skills.
- Ability to adapt and respond to changing situations.
- Venepuncture and Phlebotomy skills.
- Demonstrate We Care values in all aspects of care provided.

Agenda for Change (Band
6). - Salary: £46,419 to £55,046 per year, including allowances.
