Senior Clinical Fellow - Nuclear Medicine

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join our team, and experience a wide range of subspecialty and general Nuclear Medicine within a supportive environment. The post is for 12 months with subject to extension. There may be the opportunity to apply for future substantive positions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to carry out the following:

  • Programmed activities for direct clinical care:
  • Nuclear Medicine and DXA reporting
  • Nuclear Medicine Therapy/Clinics
  • Supporting programmed activities which include;
    Job Planning, appraisal, continuing professional development, clinical governance, mandatory training, teaching & service improvement work

Sessions will be allocated to supporting professional activities e.g. administrative duties / audit.

About us

The Department of Nuclear Medicine sits within the directorate of Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP). Joint Clinical Directors lead the directorate supported by a General Manager and Head of Nursing.

The Directorate supports the development of the AHSC through its participation in the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group.

The Nuclear Medicine Department delivers imaging and therapy in multiple locations across 2 main sites, St Thomas' Hospital and Guy's Hospital with in patient therapy provision based at Guy's Hospital. There is a full RIS and PACS system (Sectra) linking all the Departments allowing image interpretation from any site. The Departments are linked with video-conferencing capability. There are PACS links to other hospitals in the region to allow combined review of patients.

We also have recently installed EPIC software.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will be expected to undertake a supervisory role of junior trainees and will be encouraged to take part in teaching and other educational activities. There will also be an opportunity to undertake subspecialty research, if the postholder wishes.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training:
  • Full GMC Registration and hold a licence to practise
  • Higher degree in NM/FRCR or equivalent
Clinical Experience
  • Independent reporting of Nuclear Medicine imaging
  • Experience of delivering radionuclide treatments in current or most recent last job
  • Experience of PET/CT, Nuclear cardiology
Audit Management & IT
  • Understand the role of clinical governance and audit in a successful department
  • Management and IT skills
  • Understanding of principles of audit
  • Specific audits in nuclear medicine
  • Track record of involvement in service improvement projects
Research, Teaching skill & experience
  • Understand the importance of research and its role in imaging
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
  • Track record of published research in peer reviewed publications, in the field of nuclear medicine
  • Communication;
    Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate
  • Interpersonal Skills;
    Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively with others
  • Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances and to cope with setbacks or pressure
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Staff Management;
    Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff
  • Accountability;
    Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
