Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Cancer Nurse Specialist to join the metastatic uro‑oncology service at the Royal Free Hospital. This 12‑month fixed‑term post is for maternity cover. The role incorporates the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (may require occasional cross‑cover)
Salary: £51,883 – £58,544 per annum (Band
7)
- Provide professional and expert care to patients with metastatic urological cancers; act as a resource for information and support to patients, carers and staff.
- Develop knowledge of expected toxicities and late effects of urological cancer treatments.
- Offer expert nursing support before, during and after treatment, including outpatient visits and telephone advice and triage.
- Liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver a seamless specialist service.
- Ensure each patient has a care plan and liaise with MDT and other teams to maintain continuity of care.
- Provide formal and informal training and education within the specialist area.
- Attend the Cancer CNS Community of Practice.
- Support health and wellbeing events and initiatives for patients.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings as a patient advocate.
- Identify patients with complex needs early and liaise with referring teams to ensure continuity.
- Conduct holistic needs assessments and provide sign‑posting to available services.
- Registered nurse with an undergraduate degree.
- Post‑registration qualification relevant to oncology or urology.
- Substantial post‑registration experience in a relevant specialty.
- Evidence of teaching, research and audit.
- Proven ability to improve patient experience.
- Expert specialist skills for the post.
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Ability to solve problems, prioritise, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to meet patient needs.
- Computer literacy (use of NHS systems).
- Masters degree or working towards one.
- Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification.
