The Forensic services Security Department is a Nursing team dedicated to the delivery of therapeutic security and reception front house customer care services to patients, visitors, staff and all other stakeholders. Therapeutic security is made up of physical, procedural and relational security components.
To enable patients to receive the highest standard of care possible a culture of safety, security and therapeutic risk taking must be integral to all aspects of service delivery.
Main duties of the jobThe Security Liaison Nurse post holder will under the direction of Head of Security manage the reception supervisors and Security Nursing Assistants and ensure that they assume a lead role in the provision of all aspects of therapeutic security, participating in the development and maintenance of high quality patient care.
The Security Liaison Nurse will be responsible for managing Security Nursing Assistant in fulfilling their responsibility of ensuring that monitoring and maintaining of procedures for the physical security systems of the unit are implemented upholding the integrity of the physical security structures and safeguarding Patients, Staff, Visitors the Public and all other stakeholders.
The Security Liaison Nurse will ensure that Security Nursing Assistant and reception supervisors carry out and maintain all mandatory security checks within the Unit. The post holder will be required to work in John Howard Centre and or Wolfson House Security ensuring that all Security Nursing Assistant competently operate all security systems and process access and egress of the unit for staff, patients, visitors, contractors and all other stakeholders.
The post holder must be able to demonstrate knowledge of and participate in risk assessment protocols for complex care patients and those exhibiting high levels of risk, in conjunction with the Security Liaison Nurses and the nursing team.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training- First Level Registered Nurse RMN and/or RNMH
- Evidence of post basic development.
- At least 3 years post basic ward experience, or equivalent.
- Post basic experience in forensic setting. Previous experience of adult, risk assessment/management
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Person management skills. Sound clinical skills.
- Ability to undertake specialist Security training at Under/Post Graduate or Diploma level.
- Up to date knowledge of nursing practice and current trends.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles underpinning Therapeutic Security.
- Knowledge of legislation pertaining to Mental Health in-patients e.g. MHA, CPA.
- Knowledge of UKCC Standards and code of conduct.
