The Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit provides high‑quality care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical and obstetric conditions in a critical care environment. Our team are friendly, supportive and committed to delivering excellent patient care.
If you are a nurse with paid critical‑care experience at Band 5 or Band 6 level in an HDU/ICU environment and you would like to progress your career in a leading‑edge environment, consider joining the Homerton Staff Bank. Banding is based on experience and post‑graduation critical‑care course.

Main duties of the jobYou must be confident you can deliver a high standard of nursing care and be an excellent communicator, using your own initiative and working effectively within a team.
- Assess individual patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate care, adapting to the specific needs of patients and relatives.
- Act as a 'named nurse' for a group of patients: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
- Coordinate a ward area, providing direction to junior staff without direct supervision.
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Effectively function as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Assess patients and develop, implement and evaluate a care plan
- Safely administer medicines in accordance with NMC Guidelines (2002)
- Keep accurate records in accordance with NMC Guidelines (2002)
- Manage time efficiently
- Recent nursing experience in a healthcare setting.
- ITU experience
- Recent nursing experience in an acute general ward, A&E, ITU and/or theatre
- NMC Code of Conduct
- Confidentiality issues
- Upper‑level nursing knowledge required for registration
- Understanding of Trust values
- Commitment and adherence to the Equality Act
- Commitment to further professional development
