Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self‑motivated and committed experienced Band 6 nurse to join the Wilson Ward team. The ward is a fast‑paced environment caring for patients with a wide range of cancers, undergoing surgical and medical interventions. Patients are also admitted from CCU and day‑care services, often having received chemotherapy, radiotherapy and symptom control. While oncology experience and head and neck clinical skills are desirable, we will provide training in all aspects of cancer care and support the development of your oncology knowledge.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, in collaboration with the shift coordinators.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team and lead the team in the Ward Sister’s absence.
  • Take charge of a ward in a busy environment and manage a complex workload.
  • Proactively identify areas to improve the patient experience and the quality of nursing care, and support service development initiatives with the Ward Sister.
  • Develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift under the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
Qualifications

Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, and have experience leading a ward in a busy setting. Ability to manage a complex workload and a proactive approach to service improvement are essential. Oncology experience and head and neck clinical skills are desirable but not mandatory, as training will be provided.
