Collingham Child and Family Centre is a National inpatient unit that looks after children under the age of 13 with complex mental health needs. We recruit from diverse nursing backgrounds to broaden and develop the experience and skill mix for the children at Collingham.
We seek innovative, dynamic nurses interested in developing careers within a supportive, highly skilled nursing, medical and therapeutic team.
Here you will support children to build resilience, better coping strategies and healthy relationships, in a safe, effective, patient‑centred environment.
Set in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, the unit provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children whose needs can no longer be met safely in the community. We work collaboratively with patients, families and local voluntary services.
Main duties of the jobWe have a multidisciplinary team consisting of a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, junior doctors, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, family therapists, nursing associate, support workers, a ward manager and matron. The on‑site school is run by teachers and visiting tutors for music, art therapy and drama therapy.
Job responsibilitiesTypical tasks for this role include:
- 1:1 sessions with all young people on a daily basis
- Primary nurse for 1 to 2 children
- Co‑facilitating groups and activities with MDT colleagues
- Supporting children with daily living skills
- Ensuring safe running of the unit; ensuring policy and protocols are followed
- Attending CPA’s and professional meetings

Person specification – qualifications- Registered Mental Health Nurse at degree or diploma level
- RNC at degree or diploma level
- RNLD at degree or diploma level
- Current NMC registration
- Knowledge of mental disorder, child development, mental health law and legislation, and the nursing process
- Good knowledge of local and national policies and procedures
- Basic counselling skills
- Experience working in a mental health setting post‑registration
- Understanding and empathy for children & young people
- Effective communication with children, young people, parents, and other professionals
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour
- Genuine interest in this specialism
- Professionalism in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, and good interpersonal relationships
- Available to work shifts, days, nights and weekends, Monday to Sunday across all inpatient units
- Flexible to relocate within the trust to cover sister wards if needed
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £38,488 to £46,852 per annum, including HCAS, pro rata if part time.
